Miss Fisher's Riding Suit jacket knockoff: initial notes and reinforcements

EN Summary: You guys didn't think I would let go of Miss Fisher did you? Well, I didn't and I have a few Miss Fisher inspired garments that I want to make for next season, the first being this riding suit she wore in "Framed for Murder". I wrote a previous article about this outfit listing a few pattern possibilities (check it out here) and I will start with the blazer. Keep reading this full article.

Continuem a ler o artigo completo abaixo.

EN: Butterick 6433, a "Making History" pattern is indeed very similar to Miss Fisher's outfit. I think her blazer has a few more shaping seams or panels (I also think the front panel seam ends at the shoulder instead of on the armhole) and is more loose around the hips but I am happy with the general lines of this pattern and I think it will deliver a similar enough blazer. Regarding the jodhpur pants I have yet to explore a few more possibilities so I don't know if I'll use this pattern, but it's a strong possibility. I will skip the buttoned belt closure on the blazer and replace it with a buckle (similar to Miss Fisher's); I will also skip the faux vent buttons on the sleeves as Miss Fisher's sleeves don't show any buttons or vents. I also believe her belt is hand-sewn to the jacket but I will keep mine free instead because it's more versatile. So I cut size 14, widening it slightly at the waist and below and also cut the belt a little longer just in case. The fabric is 100% linen from tecidos.com.pt (the Portuguese web of https://www.fabfab.com), the buttons are made of wood and are vintage (a gift from a dear friend).

EN: For the blazer inner reinforcements (read interfacing and stay tapes) I went for a less vintage approach opting for fusibles. I used a not too stiff fusible woven interfacing for the under collar (I altered the pattern splitting the under-collar in two and adding seam allowances at the center back, so I could cut it on the bias and not on the fold and join both pieces with a back seam), the fronts, side fronts and both sides of the belt; I used what I believe is similar to weft-insertion lightweight fusible on the upper-collar (this piece is cut on the fold), facings, hems, back shield, outer pocket flats, pocket welts and sleeve-heads. I reinforced the armholes with Vilene stay tape and used beta tape (on-grain strips of woven interfacing) for stabilizing the front edges and the roll-line. I also added a shoulder shield to the front, cutting this piece on the bias from the woven interfacing. and fusing it on top of the previous reinforcements, leaving the neckline and shoulders allowances free.

EN: Instead of cutting the inner and outer pocket bags of lining as instructed, I cut the inner pocket bags of self-fabric and the outer pocket bags of lining. The fronts are sewn first, joining the princess seams, clipping and notching as necessary and pressing the seams open over a tailor's ham:

EN: The pockets will be sewn next and notice I have the pocket openings completely thread-traced so my lines are visible both on the inside and the outside of the jacket. The hems and othe rimportant markins are also thread-traced.
