EN Summary: I started making this dress last week and finished it last weekend. I'm wearing it today (will try to take photos later when I return home from work - the outfit photos will be up on Tany et La Mode later), and I am very pleased with how it turned out. Keep reading for the full sewing review!

Pattern and Fabric used: The pattern is McCalls7406 (view D) and I cut size 14 without any alteration (I feel that I could easily get away with the 12, though). The only remark regarding the fit is the low armholes (I'm used to a little higher armholes with BurdaStyle patterns), but still these are perfectly wearable. The fabric is actually a sheer stable knit, very drapery and soft to the touch. I had it in my stash for years and every past summer I intended to make something out of it but until now I had failed at finding the perfect pattern match for it.

Special techniques used (differently from the pattern instructions): The instructions are intended for the use of a regular sewing machine through all the construction process but I was determined to use my Serger and new Coverstitch machine on this dress. The side seams and shoulder seams were serged using a 3-thread Ultra-Stretch Mock Safety stitch (click here for the technical notes). The back neckline and armholes were finished with bias tape (as indicated by the instructions) but after stitching the bias tape, instead of trimming, folding and topstitching on the sewing machine, I trimmed the allowances as instructed, pressed them towards the tape, understitched and coverstitched along the edge. Lastly I simply trimmed down the excess bias tape close to the coverstitch. The all-in-one front edges and hem here stabilized with knit stay tape and coverstitched (read the tutorial here).

EN: Below there's the shoulder seams, look at the edge treatment, it turned out really neat and professional-looking:
---
EN: This pattern contains pattern pieces for a sash and also the belt-loops:
---
PT: Este molde contém molde específico para o cinto e para as passadeiras do cinto:
EN: The belt loops look finer if the seam is pressed open and centered behind the finished loop. For making the belt loops I used the following tools (sent to me from the United States by a very dear friend, a few years ago): no-melt pressing bars with different widths are ideal for pressing the seams open on fabric tubes and the loop-turner makes the job of turning the loops to the right side a lot easier:
---

EN: A couple more details of the finished dress are: the right side inner waist ties:
---
EN: On the left side I sewed in a little plastic snap instead of the optional hook&eye (I reinforced the "female" snap with a little folded square of self-fabric on the wrong side); I think these plastic snaps are more inconspicuous (they are extra flat) and remain hidden inside the closed front better.
---
EN: I top-stitched the edges of the belt with the sewing machine:
---
EN: I'm really happy with this dress and will certainly save the pattern for another time. I am wearing the dress today and plan on taking a few photos later today, so stay tuned on Tany et La Mode!  photos of me wearing the dress were published on my personal style blog (click here). Thank you all for reading!

You did a lovely job with the coverstitch, I might have to get one as well. I totally understand your frustration with the combi machine.
