The Lehenga skirt project notes (2) – A saia Lehenga: notas sobre a construção (2)

EN Summary: In this article I address the invisible zipper, the lining and the waist facings, illustrating the entire process as I go (very picture heavy). At this point all there is left to do is hemming both skirt and lining, and then move on to sewing the matching top.

---

Meeting up with Gail and Aveiro sightseeing tour by Moliceiro - Encontro com a Gail e passeio de Moliceiro por Aveiro

EN Summary: Gail from myfabrication.blogspot.com (Australia) is spending a few days in Portugal and came to Aveiro for a short stay. We went on a Moliceiro trip together, which allowed her and my little family to know Aveiro from the water canals perspective. We've spent a lovely time together (picture heavy).

Self made and worn this week #6 – Roupa feita por mim que usei nesta semana #6

EN: This week has passed in a blink and there hasn’t been much time for sewing and/or outfit posting. There was this one outfit that I wore on Monday (click here to see more photos), featuring OPP V2752 pants (click here for the sewing review and scroll down to read the review in English). V2752 is a Guy Laroche Paris Original, a lovely pattern in my opinion, and I've also made the jacket (click here for the sewing review, if you like).

I have another post lined up, with photos of my city Aveiro, taken when I met up with Gail of myfabrication.blogspot.com who came all the way from Australia to spend a few vacation days in Portugal! Stay tuned!

---

EN Summary: I got an email from a reader asking how I managed to get the serger (overlock machine) stitches to look so perfect, so in this article I’ll walk you through the method that works best for me. I use the 3-thread overlock stitch 90% of the times, so this is the stitch that I’ll address in this tutorial.

---

The Lehenga skirt: progress notes (1) – A saia Lehenga: notas sobre a construção (1)

EN: Summary: In this article I’m addressing the pattern alterations, the cutting, the construction of the gores and the interfacing reinforcements on this skirt.

---

Self-made and worn this week #5 – Roupa feita por mim que usei esta semana #5

EN: This week I haven’t been able to record most of my daily outfits with the exception of this one, worn on Wednesday. You can see me wearing a lip print neoprene dress that I made last year (click here for the sewing review and here for more photos of the outfit). The pattern used was from BurdaStyle magazine, a model by the Milanese duo Aquilano & Rimondi which I altered (simplified). You all have a wonderful weekend!

---

EN Summary: My friends generosity has no limits and yesterday I received another package in the mail, containing (among many other goodies) a few more notions that will be quite useful (not to say absolutely indispensable) for my Couture French jacket (AKA Chanel inspired jacket). Click here for Part 1 of Sewing Notions and supplies for fine sewing, if you haven’t checked it out already.

The next project (the Lehenga skirt) and plans for an epic project – Já a seguir: A saia Lehenga e planos para um projeto épico

EN: First of all I’d like to thank for all the wonderful comments and cheering that I got (both here and on my personal style blog where I published the photos of me wearing the dress) for my previous sewing project, the pleated shoulder dress. It makes me very happy that I’m still able to dazzle and inspire some of you, and this is mainly what drives me to go on and keep sharing what I do. After making the dress I needed something more straight forward, and I thought of BCN Unique’s new pattern the Lehenga skirt. This simple and elegant design can be interpreted in many ways and I spent a few days thinking of all the options; finally I settled with this navy blue silk satin from my stash and I’m planning on splitting each skirt panel into three or four panels and play with the alternating both sides of the satin (glossy and dull). I haven’t decided on the final layout yet (alternating sides (I’d divide each panel into 4 instead of 3 in this case)? Glossy top and bottom panels and dull central panels? I also haven’t decided on the skirt length either.

---

EN: I’m also gathering all the notions for a more epic project, a Couture French Jacket; after watching the Little Black Jacket video I couldn’t take my mind of this jacket:

---

EN: So far I’ve elected the fabric (black boucle and black silk habotai for the lining, both from GorgeousFabrics.com) and also picked the trim and buttons for the jacket:

---

EN: Below there are other trim option and different buttons (crystal), but I ended up selecting the combo shown in the previous photo, a trim with a suede fringe and beads and passemanerie buttons.

---

See you all soon! --- Até breve!

2015#6 – The pleated shoulder dress sewing review – O vestido com ombro pregueado: sumário
